BRAHMAVIHARAS: THE FOUR IMMEASURABLES
These handcrafted paper collages are from a series based on the Brahma Viharas or Four Immeasurables in Buddhism. Also referred to as the Four Divine Abodes or Four Infinite Minds, the Brahma viharas are Metta (Loving-kindness), Karuna (Compassion), Mudita (Empathetic Joy) and Upekkha (Equanimity). They represent awakened states of mind and the most wholesome aspects of our human nature. Also referred to as mind/heart liberating practices, they awaken powerful healing energies that manifest as forces of purification transforming the turbulent heart into a refuge of calm, focused awareness. The Brahma viharas enable us to engage in a conscious, gentle dismantling of the conditioning that binds us to suffering.
